“宅”家|Let`s “抗疫” in English

The year 2020 is destined to be eventful. An outbreak pandemic has affected tens of thousands of families home and abroad. “No man is an island.” At this very moment, our lives as Chinese citizens and as global citizens are linked closely together. The students in our school don’t flinch from difficulties despite the new challenges of having to study on-line. Let’s read what they think:

2020年,注定是不平凡的一年。一场突如其来的疫情,影响到千家万户中国人和世界其他国家的公民。“没有人是一座孤岛”。是的,全中国甚至全人类的命运其实如此紧密相连。在这个特殊的时刻,我们的学生们,没有因为面对挑战而退缩挑战;没有因为辛苦的网上学习而遗忘关注千千万万和我们同住‘地球村’同胞。让我们读读他们的心声吧:

Wuhan, a City in China

——never a synonym of plague

At the end of 2019, a pandemic called “COVID-19” broke out and many people were seriously affected by the crown-shaped virus worldwide. Yet there’s still no proper way to cure the disease and with breathtaking speed, it has infected tens of thousands of people. Many people have kept an eye on where the disease first appeared——Wuhan, a city located in the center of China. Being the most serious place of the disease, it became the target of public’s criticism. Some call it a city of ‘plague’. But is that really suitable to describe a city? I don’t think so.

In fact, the ordinary citizens in the city have nothing to do with the disease. Its government failed to handle the problem well. It’s not wrong to criticize the government for not paying the virus enough attention, but it’s not the city’s fault. What’s more , there’s no evidence showing the virus originated in Wuhan. The origin of virus is still unknown.

Wuhan is an amazing city. Some say it’s a city of heroes. It has the Yellow Crane Tower which has been visited by many famous poets such as Libai, Cuihao and so on. The well-known Mulan Tianchi, a historical scenic spot is also very popular. The food in Wuhan is attractive, too. Beer duck, hot noodles with sesame paste, stick rice with chicken…… Do you really think that Wuhan is a synonym of “plague” just because the outbreak of the COVID-19? Once the disease is gone, it’ll be a paradise again. Its glory will pierce through the darkness it now endures, and it will shine once more

There’s always hope

In life, we meet different things every day. Among them, there are good things and bad things. But no matter what we encounter, we should believe there is always hope.

These days, the COVID-19 is very serious in China. The number of people infected with the virus is increasing day by day. In Hubei province, where the virus starts, there are thousands of patients. Treatment and prevention are great challenges to the Chinese people. In the process of fighting against the disease, we never lose hope.

Doctors and nurses never lose hope. They do their best to help more patients. They keep working for long hours every day. Many of them only sleep for a few hours and go on working the next day. They wear thick and heavy protection suits. To save time, they don’t even drink water. The work is extremely dangerous and difficult, but hope lights the way in the darkness. Through hard work, more and more patients recovered and went back home. Hope is a wonderful thing. Where there is hope, there is a way.

The Chinese Government and people never lose hope. The government has made decisive and effective decisions. They stopped all traffic in and out of Wuhan in time to stop the spread of the virus. They organized medical teams to go to Wuhan to give the help it needs. At the same time, we Chinese people actively cooperate with our government and strictly stay indoors to prevent the spread of the virus. We donate money and supplies to provide material and emotional support for people working in the front line. Hope is an incredible thing. It gives us strength to overcome all difficulties.

Our family never lose hope. We never go out unless it is absolutely necessary. Of course, we wash our hands frequently and maintain sanitation at home. Every morning at the breakfast table, we listen to the latest news about the number of people who are infected, we feel happy when the number decreases and feel worried when the number increases. With every family taking action, our country will surely win in this battle.

The course of life is never smooth. Although we may meet difficulties of all kinds, the future is always promising. We do our best, look trouble in the eye; we move forward, and we believe, there is always hope!

Online Class, a New Experience

Due to the outbreak of novel corona virus, this semester has been unusual for all of us. Teachers have become network anchors and students have online classes at home. It is a new experience, which is both interesting and challenging.

Online class has a variety of advantages. Firstly, it is so convenient that we can study at the comfort of our home. We don't need to go out early and come back at dusk, which saves both time and energy. Secondly, it helps improve our self-discipline. In the virtual classroom, teachers can't supervise us like before. We have to control ourselves and concentrate on the classes. Thirdly, online classes can be delivered to hundreds of students, which is very efficient.

Nevertheless, it has some disadvantages as well. It does harm to our eyesight when we stare at the screen all day. Besides, the interaction between teachers and students is quite limited.

In short, in the special period, online class may be a good alternative, however, it can't replace the conventional one.
